We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Paul Gallacher as our new head of goalkeeping at McDiarmid Park.
Paul moves to Perth following a successful 10-year stint at Tynecastle with Heart of Midlothian, where he first began coaching following the conclusion of his professional playing career.
Paul played for the likes of Dundee United, St Mirren, Dunfermline, Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday and Partick Thistle and he also has eight international Scotland caps to his name.
Paul’s final club as a player was Hearts before he moved into coaching. He has worked with the likes of Zander Clark, Craig Gordon, Jon McLaughlin and Alexander Schwolow as well as bringing through several highly-regarded youth graduates in Gorgie.
His coaching experience also includes working with Scotland Under-19s.
Everyone at the club welcomes Paul to McDiarmid Park.
Speaking after joining the Saints, Paul said: “I’m absolutely delighted and thoroughly looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“I watched St Johnstone a couple of times last season. I thought they were fantastic and played some really exciting football.
“I’ve already met some of the staff behind the scenes. I could quickly see that it is a family-friendly club and everyone has made me feel very welcome.
“It was key for me to be in ahead of pre-season starting. I’ve spoken to Simo and I was really excited by what he had to say.
“I liked his thought process and the togetherness he has with staff, players and the fans. He wants everyone going in the same direction – and I could see that just from watching last season.”
Paul added: “I have plenty of experience behind me now and exposure at many different levels. You are constantly learning and looking to improve.
“I’ll look to do that with the goalkeepers when we get out on that pitch. We’ll work hard and always strive to be the best we can be.”
