Rangers match preview

St Johnstone travel to Ibrox to take on Rangers in our next cinch Premiership fixture

A frantic final 10 minutes saw Saints claim all 3 points against to Motherwell thanks to a late stoppage time goal from Stevie May.

Saints opened the scoring on 28 minutes when Jamie Murphy slotted the ball beyond Liam Kelly after Theo Bair brought the ball down with his chest.

The Steelmen pushed for an equaliser in the second half and their pressure eventually payed dividends  in the first minute of stoppage time when a header from Stephen O’Donnell deflected off Graham Carey before landing in the net.

It looked as if the points were to be share but deep into the 6 minutes of stoppage time Stevie May ghosted in behind the Motherwell defence to slot the ball home to take the three points back to Perth.

The win moves Saints up to sixth place in the league and they are back in action this Saturday.

Rangers come into the game after beating Kilmarnock in a comfortable 2-0 victory at Ibrox. The Gers were made to wait for the opener, with Antonio Colak breaking the deadlock just before the hour mark. The returning Alfredo Morelos would secure the 3 points scoring on the 88th minute.

Managers's thoughts:

"They had a fantastic result in the Champions League, it is a tough task to come back from two goals down in a game of that magnitude. I thought they were excellent. However, it doesn’t change how we approach Saturday.

"They have a great squad; it is over to us now to make the game difficult for them. They are going to have the majority of possession; we have to make sure in certain areas that we are really good without it. When we do get it, we have to make good use of it so we can put pressure on them.

"Liam Gordon came through a B team game midweek so he is fit again. However, he is under pressure after the performance of the back three recently. Ali Crawford is also back fully fit. We are just missing Murray Davidson from our short term injury list."

Alex Mitchell's thoughts:

"I have loved every minute of my time here so far, it has been brilliant. There is nothing like playing every minute of football games. I have really enjoyed living in the town centre and experiencing Perth, I have been trying to take it all in. I have been on loan a few times but this is already one of my favourites.

"I like to defend, some would say in the style of an old fashioned defender. I also feel I bring good communication and leadership qualities to the team. In the last few games as a back three i feel like we have done great, we have settled together really quickly and all of us have performed great.

"I don't think any of the guys are going into this game thinking we are going to lose. Me personally, I want to win every game. I play football to win. Being underdogs will work in our favour. Obviously there will be pressure but we want to win."
