Reece McAlear insists the Saints are taking it one game at a time as he touched on the tough test that awaits against Dunfermline this weekend.

We face the Pars at McDiarmid Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm). It will be the third meeting of the teams this season.

The Saints picked up a 2-1 win early in the campaign before there was a 2-2 draw at East End Park in November.

Speaking to the broadcast media, Reece said: “It will be a tough game. The past two games against them have been tough. It’s the Championship and every game is tough – it doesn’t matter who you are playing against.

“I know they got a good result against Hibs las week, but we’ll be ready to go and will be looking to show what we can do.

“We’re looking forward to it. It’s been a wee while since we’ve had a game so we’re raring to go again.”

Asked about the “pressure” that comes with competing at the top of the table, Reece said: “It could be worse pressure. You could be towards the bottom of the table and having to deal with that. We’re taking it game-by-game and in our stride. We’re in this position for a reason because we’ve been doing well.

“We don’t look too far ahead. It’s all about Dunfermline for now. We have good experience in the changing room and have level heads.”

The subject of who is on free-kick duty moving forward was raised.

Reece smiled: “It depends who is on the pitch, who isn’t. And who scored the one before! We have some good set-piece takers in the team.

“Last time against Dunfermline I changed my mind. I was going to cross it, but ended up going for goal and thankfully it went in.”
