We are delighted to announce the signing of Reece McAlear from Livingston for an undisclosed fee, subject to clearance.

The midfielder joins us at McDiarmid Park on a two-year deal.

McAlear started his career at Motherwell before making the switch to Norwich City. He had a spell with Inverness Caledonian Thistle on loan during his time at The Canaries and then moved permanently to Tranmere Rovers.

Further experience was picked up on loan at Ayr United, where he helped them reach the Premiership playoffs, before his next move took him to Livingston.

McAlear said: “It’s been a quick turnaround the last couple of days. I spoke to the gaffer last night again and I like the way that he wants to play football.

“There are good people in here. I’ve seen that already. I know a few of the boys from playing against them over the years.

“I’m a player who likes to get on the ball and dominate the ball. I know the league very well and hopefully that can benefit the team.

“It’s a chance for me to play more football and I really am excited to get going.”

Saints fans may recognise McAlear from scoring twice against us in the 2022 Premiership play-off while he was at Inverness.

He smiled: “I had to do what I had to do on that night to try and get Inverness promoted. But I can apologise to Saints fans about it now!”
