Sam Stanton: Queen’s Park reaction

Midfielder Sam Stanton played a starring role as we defeated Queen’s Park 4-3 at McDiarmid Park on Saturday afternoon.

We raced into a 3-0 lead before the interval with Sam grabbing his first league goal of the season and Jamie Gullan bagging a double.

Queen’s Park forced their way back into the game in the second period, but ultimately we ran out winners with Jack Baird grabbing our fourth goal of the afternoon.

Reacting to the win, Sam said: “It was a really good start to the game. We were slack and sloppy in the second-half and we get conceded a penalty that was never a penalty.

“It deflated us a bit, but in the end we did well to get another goal and see the game out. The three points is the most important thing.”

On his own goal and contribution, Sam continued: “I am delighted personally to get on the scoresheet. To play again and contribute something, I am happy.

“I have been working hard but when the team is doing so well there is only so much you can do.

“I was just happy to play today and to take my opportunity was great.”

We now look ahead to Partick Thistle away next weekend and Sam added: “It is a massive game. A top of the table clash.

“It is a big one and we are all looking forward to it.”
