We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Sam Stanton from Raith Rovers, who joins the club on a one-year deal.
Sam, 31, came through the youth academy system at Hibernian, where he made his debut at just 17 against Rangers in January 2012.
He made more than 50 appearances for Hibs and spent time on loan at Cowdenbeath, Livingston, Dumbarton and Dundee United, before signing for the latter on a permanent basis in January 2018.
Following over 50 appearances for United, Sam moved to America to sign for Phoenix Rising FC in January 2020.
After a successful season winning the Western Conference and reaching the USL Championship Final (which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic), the club and Sam mutually agreed to part ways in December and he subsequently signed for Dundalk.
Sam has since been playing his football with Raith Rovers, with a loan spell at Arbroath last season. He is now looking forward to his next chapter with us at St Johnstone.
Sam said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be here. It was a no-brainer for me.
“This is a very good club and a club that has been very successful through the years.
“It’s been a long off-season so I’m really looking forward to getting back with a new group of boys and the head coach.”
Sam added: “I’ve played most of my football in the Championship but have also been over to America and Ireland. I have played a lot of games and feel I have picked up experience in different places.
“You need a bit of everything in the Championship. You need to work hard because it can be a physical league. But there is good quality as well.
“I can’t wait to get going. Hopefully I can bring quality, energy, goals and assists.”
Heading the other way and joining Raith Rovers in a permanent move is goalkeeper Josh Rae. Josh spent time on loan at the Fife outfit last season.
The club would like to extend its thanks to Josh for his service during his time at McDiarmid Park.
