We caught up with midfielder Elvie McLean, who was named in the SWPL Team of the Week, ahead of the game.
On being named in SWPL Team of the Week:
It’s always nice to get recognised individually, so when I saw that I was in the Team of the Week, I was really pleased. More importantly, it was really good to get the win as a team, especially in the fashion that we did.
It extends the gap between us and the teams below and also pushes us up the table. I thought that there were a lot of good performances throughout the team, and this was shown by the fact that we had five different people on the scoresheet.
On the team performance against Stirling Uni:
I thought that, collectively as a team, it was a really strong performance. We played Stirling quite recently in the cup so knew what their strengths and weaknesses were going to be going into the game.
I thought everyone stuck to the game plan really well and this was shown in the amount of chances we created.
On finding the back of the net twice:
It was nice to get a couple of goals as it has been something I’ve been wanting to add more to my game. I think the timing of them as well – just before half-time – was really important as it let us go into the break a bit more relaxed.
On Gartcairn this weekend:
Gartcairn are a good side and it has always a close game when we play them. They’ve had a couple of good results recently, but we feel confident that we can go out and cause them problems.
They always make the game a battle, and like to go from back to front quite quickly so it is about us being ready to deal with that but also playing to our strengths.
On being back at McDiarmid Park:
It’s really nice to be back playing our games at McDiarmid Park. The support at our home games has been really good and it definitely gives you an extra boost when you’re out on the pitch. Last season we got a good run of results going at home so hopefully we can replicate that this season.
