It was a tough afternoon for a depleted Saints side as they lost 7-2 to unbeaten league leaders Kilmarnock on Sunday.
A clinical performance saw the side 5-0 up at half time. Cara Gray opened the scoring from close range after fourteen minutes, and Georgie McTear scored the second after twenty six minutes nipping in ahead of Bobby Cochran in the Saints goal to prod the ball home.
Eirinn McCafferty, Elvie McLean and Rachel Howie all had chances for the home side, but they failed to test Ellie Currie in the Kilmarnock goal.
Abby Robinson scored a hat-trick in the eight minutes before half time, firstly with a strike from the edge of the area high into the roof of the goal. She would then slot home from close range after a cut back on the right from Kelsy Crainie, and on the stroke of half time Lucie Burns played in a ball from the left which Robinson turned home despite pressure from the Saints defence.
A sixth goal came six minutes after the restart as Kilmarnock captain Laura McLaughlin scored after a bit of pinball in the Saints penalty area.
Despite this, Saints had certainly not given up, and Jodie Malcolm scored in the 69th minute with a great finish from out on the right, lofting the ball high over Currie who was caught out by the flight of the ball as it dropped into the far corner.
Three minutes later Elvie McLean scored with a powerful strike from eight yards out to reduce the arrears yet further.
Both sides continued to push forward looking to add to their respective tallies and in the final minute it was Kaitlyn Canavan who added gloss to the Kilmarnock scoreline.
Saints now have a free week before welcoming Queen’s Park to McDiarmid on December 7th in the Scottish Gas Womens Scottish Cup.
