St Johnstone WFC have added two new faces to their ranks ahead of the new SWPL2 season, which kicks-off in little over two weeks’ time.

Brogan Anderson, who has a wealth of experience, arrives at the Saints after a spell with Falkirk where she was their top goal-scorer.

Also joining for the beginning of the new campaign is Kristen Taplin, an attacker who joins having previously been playing with Hearts U17s. Prior to joining Hearts, she came through the youth system at Jeanfield Swifts Girls.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed this week that a number of players are moving on – and all were thanked for their service.

Megan Wands has decided to move on from the Saints following the conclusion of her loan spell. She made eight appearances, scoring once.

Leah Sidey departs having joined the club in January. She scored four times in 14 appearances.

Nicole Gibson, meanwhile, has moved on after joining the side last summer. She made 17 appearances over the course of the most recent season.

Abbie Telford has joined SWF Championship side Dryburgh on loan.

Saints kick-off the season away at Kilmarnock on Sunday, August 17.

Manager Josh Henderson has been putting his squad through its paces with friendlies already in the bag against Aberdeen and Rossvale.

“The friendlies have been about getting minutes in the legs and working towards the way we want to play ahead of the competitive football starting.

“There have been a few players departing but we’ve been working hard to get players in too. We’re actively looking to add more to the squad so we have that strength in depth.

“We have a couple of weeks to go until we begin our league campaign so we know there is still a lot of hard work to be done.

“It’s going to be an exciting, tough season and there will be competition across the board. We will need to be performing at a high level from the very first match.”

The Saints are back in friendly action this Sunday (August 3) when they face Falkirk at Seven Acres in Perth. Kick-off is scheduled for 3pm.

Then, on Tuesday, another friendly is in the diary against Forfar Athletic. Kick-off at Station Park is 7.45pm and supporters are again welcome to attend.

A third pre-season fixture takes place on Sunday, August 10 at K-Park in East Kilbride when the Saints face Motherwell. Kick-off is 4pm.

The draw for the first and second rounds of the Sky Sports Cup took place recently – and the Saints were handed an away tie to kick-off the tournament.

Stirling University will provide the opposition in round one with the tie scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 7.

The winner of that tie will then face Rangers away in the second round on October 5.
