We are delighted to announce the season-long loan signing of goalkeeper Toby Steward from Portsmouth, subject to clearance.
Steward, 20, has been with the English Championship club from the under-10 age group and has continued to impress as he has moved up the ladder. He signed his first professional contract at the at age of 17.
He spent time on loan at League One club Crawley Town last season and, prior to that, picked up considerable English non-league experience.
After making the journey north, Steward said: “I’m really pleased. I was interested straight away when I heard about this.
“It is a good level and a brilliant club. I’m just really pleased to be here and I’m looking forward to the season. I’m really up for the challenge.”
Steward added: “I was at Crawley on an emergency loan last season and that was really good for me in English League One. I played against the likes of Birmingham, which was a great experience.
“I’ve also been on loan plenty in non-league and I’d played more than 100 games in men’s football before I reached the age of 20. I am still quite young, but I do have experience behind me.
“I really want to help the team to win a lot of games and play my part in a successful season.”
