NAME: ADAM SHAEB

AGE: 15

POSITION: MIDFIELDER

Despite only being 15, Adam Shaeb has been a familiar face around McDiarmid Park for quite some time now.

The youth academy prospect signed his first professional contract with the club in the summer and is continuing to work hard to rise through the ranks.

Despite his age, Adam – who is comfortable playing anywhere across the midfield – regularly turns out for our under-19s team.

Speaking for the matchday programme, he said: “I started at my local boys’ club, it was actually my older brother’s team. They were called Beechwood in Edinburgh.

“I eventually progressed and joined Hearts. At that point I was taking my football seriously but it didn’t work out there.

“Then St Johnstone got in touch to ask if I wanted to come along in train – and that was that. I’ve been here ever since and have enjoyed it.

“I’ve got a football household. My dad played a lot back in the day and he was a good player. He has a real passion for football and helps to push me on. He comes to watch every game and is a big supporter.”

Adam added: “I’ve been at the club for quite a while now. I feel I am progressing. I have always been the youngest one in the team and maybe the smallest too. But my coaches have always told me not to worry about that.

“Gerry Creaney was one of my first coaches. He has pretty much been through the whole journey with me. He pushed me to be the best I can be.”

Signing his first professional contract was a proud moment.

He added: “I was really excited to sign that professional contract. The way the dates worked, I actually missed a bit of training in the summer because of a holiday that had been booked. My whole holiday was just me thinking about getting back and getting started properly.

“The training has been brilliant and, as I said, I feel I have progressed a lot. Since coming in full-time, I know there is a standard – and I need to always maintain that.

“My target is obviously to eventually get involved with the first team. But, for now, I just need to keep playing well for the under-17s and the under-19s and see where that takes me.”
