In a big boost for Saints manager Tommy Wright, 24-year-old winger Drey Wright has been given the all clear to return to playing after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury.

Drey has been out since damaging his ACL in the Ladbrokes Premiership stalemate with Kilmarnock back in November 2018.

The winger had been waiting for final sign off from his consultant which has now been given and the former Colchester United man can now get back on the pitch to start regaining his match sharpness again.

Speaking to the club's official website, Drey spoke of his delight to finally be back available for selection.

"It's a great feeling," he said, "and I've already had the boys coming up to me this morning saying how chuffed they were for me that I'm back.

"I always knew it would be around this time that I'd be coming back but it is a relief to finally get the sign off from my consultant.

"I'm looking forward to getting back involved in games now and to start building up my match fitness.

"The club's physios Mel and Jamie have been brilliant and in general I couldn't have asked for more from St. Johnstone in terms of getting me the best treatment possible so I could make the quickest recovery possible.

"I'm looking forward to getting back involved on a Saturday as soon as possible - it'll take a little bit of time to get back to my best but hopefully after a few Reserve or bounce games I'll get there."

Saints Manager Tommy Wright also spoke to the official website about the news, saying: "We're delighted that Drey has now had the go ahead to resume playing and I'm sure it's going to provide everyone with a huge boost knowing he's available once again.

"He has been working hard in training over the past few weeks but until the consultant signed him off he was unable to play in matches.

"Now we can look to get him some game time and bring him back up to match fitness. Our physios have done a great job assisting Drey in his comeback and we're all looking forward to him getting back to the levels he showed us at the beginning of last season."
