Pancreatic Cancer Awareness

21st November 2019

Thursday 21 November 2019

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month and eagle-eyed supporters at Sunday's match against Aberdeen might notice something different about the front cover of the match programme.

We've changed the colour of the cover from the traditional blue to purple for this weekend's match in a bid to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer. The idea was floated to the Club by supporter Fred McKerchar who sadly has lost his wife and mother to the disease in the past year.

Fred's daughters have organised an Awareness Walk in Perth this evening and some of the city's iconic landmarks - the Norie Miller Walk, Old Bridge, Queen’s Bridge, St. Matthew’s Church, Council Buildings and St. John’s Kirk - will be shrouded in purple light tonight as part of the event.

Another well-known face at McDiarmid Park also passed away from pancreatic cancer earlier this year – Margaret McGlashan.

‘Mags’ was chosen by fellow Saints fans in our Binn Group Gift Giveaway last Christmas, when Tony Watt and Joe Shaughnessy rocked up at her house to surprise her with a range of Saints themed gifts.

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, known to many as 'PCAM', takes place during November every year - and is the biggest event in the calendar for those committed to taking on pancreatic cancer.

Around half of all new cases are diagnosed in people aged 75 or over. It's uncommon in people under 40 years of age.
