Preview | Dundee United (A)

It is (finally) Tayside derby day!

After not having a Tayside derby since 2016, this will be the 4th time this season we have faced Dundee United and it is all to play for as Saints will be looking to come out fighting in order to register their first victory against United this season.

Last weekend Saints had a tough away trip up to Dingwall to face Ross County where the hosts took the lead in the 21st minute thanks to a Ross Draper strike. Saints almost instantly got themselves back into the game as Craig Conway was brought down in the County penalty box before he dusted himself off and dispatched the penalty into the bottom right-hand corner.

Saints fought off Ross County’s pressure and headed back down the road with a valuable away point.

Tongiht’s game is huge. A win today can really boost Saints up the table in getting closer to that desirable top 6 spot.

Callum Davidson spoke to the media earlier on in the week speaking about the importance of today’s game: “It's a great fixture. I think St. Johnstone supporters love that game because I always remember big crowds going. So it's gutting they're not there but it's a big game for us anyway no matter whether it's Dundee United, or Ross County, or Aberdeen, they're all big games now."

Dundee Utd come into tonight’s game sitting in that lucrative 6th spot in the table after drawing with Aberdeen last weekend. They will come into tonight full of confidence.

This will be the 165Th Tayside derby in all competitions.
