It was a disappointing afternoon for Saints Reserves as Alan Maybury's men suffered a 3-0 defeat to Hamilton Accies at the Hope CBD Stadium in today's SPFL Reserve League fixture.
Although technically a home game for Saints, the match was moved to Hamilton's stadium with the first-team playing against St Mirren on the McDiarmid Park pitch on Wednesday.
Despite the result there was positives to take with Brian Easton coming through 90 minutes and Shaun Struthers also returning from injury in the match.
Saints Reserves were looking to bounce back from last week's defeat to Partick Thistle but it would be an afternoon to forget for Alan Maybury's side.
The first chance of the match fell to Accies when the experienced Dougie Imrie played Lewis Smith through on goal but his effort was dragged wide of Ross Sinclair's post.
Euan O'Reilly was trying to cause problems out wide early on and created the first half chance for Saints by driving into the area before trying to square it for Shaun Struthers however Fulton in the Accies goal was down to it quickly.
Dougie Imrie missed a great opportunity after 13 minutes when his volley at the back post went just wide. Accies created the better of the chances however Euan O'Reilly did force a save from Fulton after the ref played advantage from a foul on Jordan Northcott.
Ross Sinclair was kept busy and saved well from Smith before producing an excellent piece of goalkeeping to deny Mimnaugh on 26 minutes.
Four minutes later he was at it again this time tipping a Dougie Imrie strike on the post but there was nothing he could do two minutes later when Hamilton grabbed the lead.
Lewis Smith's low effort crept through the defenders' legs before rolling into the bottom corner of the net to put Accies in front.
Ross was called into action once again just before half-time producing another stunning stop from Reilly's close range header.
Saints started the second half brighter with Euan O'Reilly once again involved crossing for John Robertson but the striker's flicked effort went agonisingly wide.
Northcott was set then set up by Marky Munro but his volley was stopped by Fulton. Ross Sinclair then produced yet another top class save right on the hour mark denying Reilly from close range.
However Sinclair would once again be beaten, this time on 66 minutes, when Mimnaugh curled one into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
And it would be a quickfire double for Accies as they made it 3-0 on 68 minutes thanks to the substitute Joseph who fired one in off the post to put the victory beyond doubt.
It very nearly got worse when Sinclair brought down Mimnaugh in the box with the referee not hesitating to point to the spot. However the Accies youngster sent his penalty wide.
Ross - who had a fantastic game - produced another great stop to deny Joseph a second late on before Fulton produced a good stop from Northcott to deny Saints a consolation goal.
