Ron 'Doc' Clark - RIP

10th June 2020

Wednesday 10 June 2020

The Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former crowd doctor Ron Clark, aged 87.

Ron has been following Saints since the 1940s and was a regular at both Muirton Park and McDiarmid Park.

He was the Crowd Doctor at McDiarmid for over 20 years before retiring aged 80. He remained a familiar face at the stadium after this, attending all home matches as well as many away games too.

Upon his retirement, he was gifted a lifetime membership of the Campbell Suite by the Club and until recently Ron attended games regularly with friends.

Ron's daughter, Jacqui, told the Club's official website: "Dad's passion for St. Johnstone was clear for everyone to see. He just loved the Club.

"He was just a wee boy when he first started going to games at Muirton Park and he followed Saints home and away. Latterly, he didn't get to many away games due to his health but he was always so well looked after at McDiarmid Park.

"The family will be forever grateful to the Club because I don't think he would have been able to go to the games without the support of everybody involved.

"He always had a great relationship with Geoff Brown and was often in the boardroom before and after games. Saints meant so much to him and he was really proud of his team.

"A few months back, he received a phone call from Tommy Wright at the beginning of the lockdown and he was over the moon that the Club and Tommy took the time to think of him.

"Dad even has a Saints coffin with 'Doc' written on the front of it - that's the way he would have wanted it!"

The thoughts of everybody at St. Johnstone Football Club are with Ron's family at the time.

Ron's funeral will take place on Monday and although it will be family only due to the current COVID-19 situation, it will be available on a live stream.

Anybody wishing to access the stream should call James McEwan & Son Funeral Directors on 01738 625362.
