St Johnstone were recently delighted to announce the arrival of Melker Hallberg on an 18 month contract from Hibernian.

The Swedish born midfielder brings a composure on the ball in the centre of the park with a strong ability to link up play.

In 2010 Melker made his from More BK to the Kalmar FF youth section. It was at the age of 13 he would play in the seventh tier of Swedish football for More BK. He became the youngest ever first team player to play for Kalmar at the age of 16 and later became their fourth youngest ever goalscorer.

Following the strong start to his Kalmar career he was given a new 4 year contract extension, making 54 appearances in 2 years. In 2014, he would make a move to Italy, signing for Udinese. It would be the following January which he would make his debut for the Italian side.

In the next few years of career, Melker would be loaned out to several clubs including a return Kalmar. He would eventually leave Udinese permanently after signing for Danish side Vejle.

After a season in Denmark, Melker would gain his first taste of Scottish football when he signed for Hibs on a 3 year contract. Over the next few years the Swede would make 45 appearances for the Edinburgh club before making his move to Perth in the January window of 2022.

Melker has made appearances at various levels internationally, making his first team debut in 2016.

Speaking to SaintsTV upon his arrival, Melker said:

"It’s great to have everything finalised and now I can focus 100 percent on St Johnstone. It’s nice to hear how much the manager wanted me to be part of this Football Club. I am looking forward to this challenge. There is a lot of hard work ahead and we will show the quality, the determination and the spirit to climb up the table.”
