Jason Holt

Midfielder Jason Holt arrived at Saints on transfer deadline day in September 2019 after agreeing a season-long-loan-deal from Rangers.

Musselburgh-born Holt came through the youth ranks at his boyhood club Heart of Midlothian before turning professional in 2011. During the 2011/12 season, the midfielder had a brief loan spell at Kirkcaldy outfit Raith Rovers to gain first-team experience before returning to Tynecastle to score on his first start for the Jambos against Saints in March 2012.

With Hearts in financial difficulty and turning their attention towards playing their younger players, Holt's development was accelerated and he went on to make 71 appearances in all competitions for the Edinburgh club. Holt moved on-loan to Sheffield Utd for the second half of the 2014/15 campaign before leaving that summer to join Rangers.

Jason joined the Ibrox side as they continued their climb back up through the leagues following financial difficulties. He arrived with Rangers in the Ladbrokes Championship having failed to gain promotion the season before. Holt was an integral part of the team that would win the title in the 2015/16 season and was also an important player during the club's first two seasons back in the top flight. The arrival of new Steven Gerrard spelled the end of Holt's Rangers career and he was soon sent on-loan to Fleetwood in the EFL League One where he made 36 appearances scoring twice.

Holt returned to Rangers in the summer but was made aware that he wasn't in Gerrard's first-team plans and sealed a deadline day move to Saints to bolster manager Tommy Wright's midfield options.
