Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks: St Johnstone WFC matches

Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks (SFSF) continued their positive work in the community by hosting a first – and successful – collection at a St Johnstone WFC fixture.

The collection took place prior to Sunday’s Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 match against Kilmarnock at the Riverside.

SFSF have been a regular and welcome sight at the home games of the men’s team and are approaching a year since first starting up.

Now they plan to accept items for Perth and Kinross Foodbank at all of the remaining St Johnstone WFC games this season.

“It was a great collection and, what was really lovely about it, was that there was a range of people who brought in donations,” said Danny Williams, one of the co-ordinators of SFSF.

“We had contributions from supporters, from the players, from the volunteers and the manager Kev Candy put forward a brilliant donation.

“It was heartwarming - and we were thrilled to bits with how it went.”

Danny added: “On behalf on myself, my co-coordinator Colin [Mackay], and all our fellow volunteers at Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks (SFSF), I’d like to thank St Johnstone WFC for reaching out to us and helping to establish our first matchday collection at the Riverside.

"SFSF is fast approaching our first anniversary of matchday collections at the men’s home games up at McDiarmid and, in that year, the generosity shown by both home and away supporters towards those in our community who need a helping hand has been nothing short of remarkable.

“I’m delighted that SJWFC are helping us to add to this fantastic community effort.”

Saints WFC’s next home game is scheduled for Sunday, April 14 at the Riverside against Gartcairn.

Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks will be accepting donations before the men’s game against Dundee on Saturday, March 30. They will be at the usual collection point in front of the Ormond Stand.
