THE OPPOSITION
East Fife started their SWPL2 campaign with a narrow 3-2 home defeat against Gartcairn.
Clark and Skivington were on the scoresheet for the Methil side, who battled hard and looked set to pick up a point on day one.
But Gartcairn managed to find the winner with 81 minutes on the clock.
MANAGER’S THOUGHTS
Reflecting on last week’s defeat to Kilmarnock, manager Josh Henderson said: “It was a difficult game. We always knew it was going to be up against Kilmarnock,” Josh said after the 6-2 loss. “They are well-drilled and organised. They all know their roles and make it difficult for any team who comes down here.
“I actually thought we were just about coming into the game before they scored their first. We were doing well, then we had a wee spell before half-time where we conceded a couple of goals. That knocked the stuffing out of us a bit unfortunately.
“Second half we were a lot better. We played higher up the pitch and squeezed the game more. We tried to flip it over and put them under a bit of pressure and we got success from it. There were certainly positives from the second period and some from the first, but we need to learn from the game and get better.”
Josh highlighted the importance of belief and resilience as the season progresses.
“Goals give you confidence and make you want to get forward and attack more – they give you that feel-good factor,” he explained. “On the other hand, when you concede, that’s when you need to be grouped together more and make sure you’re harder to beat.”
Ahead of this Sunday, Josh added: “It would be great to have as many supporters as possible down at McDiarmid for our first home game.
“There will be a lot of tough games this season. We can’t take anyone lightly, but we’re looking forward to it and we’ll be ready to go.”
