Under-19s coach Danny Griffin was pleased with the attitude from his players following an opening day of the season win against Alloa Athletic.
The young Saints ran out 4-1 winners at the Indodrill Stadium.
Danny said: “It’s always great to get off to a good start. We’re scoring goals and hopefully that continues. The boys have been great, and they have been working really hard in pre-season.
“They have done everything we have asked, and they know the benefit of having a good pre-season. The new boys have fitted in very well.
“We’re now into the competitive football. The standard has been set. We need to keep building momentum, we need to keep building.”
The score was locked at 1-1 at half-time before Saints surged clear in the second half.
Danny added: “I thought we tried to force the ball in the first half and couldn’t get into the game as much as we wanted.
“The second half was a lot stronger. We asked them to play with more pace on the ball, and they passed and moved nicely to create some good width.”
Dougal McAdam bounced back from missing a penalty to net our second of the night.
He said: “It was an even first half, but I think our fitness levels showed in the second half. I think we deserved to win the game.
“It was a great ball through from Arran Clark. I just saw the gap between the centre-back and full-back. I went near post and was happy with the goal.
“We started to get more of the ball and get forward as the game went on. We’re all glad to be back and playing games.”
Fans would have seen Dougal in action for the first team during pre-season.
He said: “It was great experience playing with the first team and I have learned a lot. There is big responsibility that comes with it. I try to take a lot from it and bring it into the U19 games.”
