Head coach Simo Valakari gave a helping hand to green-fingered Beautiful Perth volunteers transforming the city’s long-neglected Rodney Gardens on Wednesday morning.
Saints fans in the charity’s team were delighted with Simo’s surprise appearance as they began the spring planting programme at the riverside park.
“It’s fantastic that these enthusiastic volunteers are doing so much to bring colour to the city this summer,” said Simo.
Beautiful Perth volunteers have been tackling the painstaking task of nurturing 3000 tiny plug plants in a refurbished polytunnel at Perth and Kinross Council’s Westbank Nursery.
And their ambitious planting programme is designed to restore the gardens to their former glory.
Alistair Chalmers, Beautiful Perth’s Green Space and Wellbeing Trainer, welcomed the support from Simo.
He said: “There are a lot of Saints fans in our team and they were delighted when Simo made a surprise appearance to help us out.
“It’s fantastic to have the backing of Simo and the club for a project which will enhance the quality of life in our city.”
