The Peter Steinle Award was presented before Friday evening’s William Hill Championship fixture against Raith Rovers.
The award, handed out annually to the U19 player of the year, was started in 2013 in memory of Peter Steinle, a hotelier who was a loyal St Johnstone fan.
His family then raised money through the Peter Steinle Foundation, with £500 awarded to the winner every year.
We were delighted to welcome Peter’s son Chris to McDiarmid Park to present the trophy.
And this year’s winner was midfielder Jack Robertson.
Jack has had an impressive season for the U19s, putting in dominant performances in the middle of the park and chipping in with important goals.
Recently, Jack has picked up experience training with the first team and has also taken part in matchday warm-ups.
On receiving the award, Jack said: “It’s a nice moment when you get recognised because you put a lot of hard work in over the course of a season.
“Being involved in the first team warm-up on a night like Friday was a pleasure – and then to receive the award was just amazing.
“It has been a busy season with a lot of ups and downs. An evening like Friday makes it all worth it.”
Jack added: “With the U19s, we have certainly made a lot of progress and we’re definitely becoming more of a team now. Some of the recent performances show that. Even winning this award, I really need to credit my team-mates.
“I’d definitely put it down as my most successful season. Even though I had a couple of injuries, the time I’ve had playing is the football I have enjoyed most.
“I’ve always wanted to improve my goalscoring capability from midfield. So to score a few more goals too recently has been really nice.
“And training with the first team has been a really good experience for me. It is certainly going to bring me on further. I’ve enjoyed every minute with the first team.”
