Midfielder Sam Gallagher provided his reaction following the under-19s 3-0 win against Edinburgh City on Tuesday evening.
Gallagher was on the scoresheet early in the second half at Xcite Winchburgh when he netted direct from a corner.
Darryl McMutrie and Dougal McAdam were also on the scoresheet for the young Saints, who defended resolutely to keep hold of their clean sheet.
Gallagher said: “I thought we did well and battled through the game. It wasn’t easy, but we worked hard and got the win in the end.
“The pitch was a little bit sticky and that made it hard to build the game at times. We needed to keep pushing in the second half and not sit off the opposition. I think, overall, we did well.”
On his goal, he added: “I actually had a corner in the first half that was close to going in! I just whipped it to the back post and hoped someone might get a touch, but thankfully it has gone in.
“I actually thought it had taken a deflection and didn’t realise it had gone straight in. But I’ll take it! The third goal then gave us some more comfort in the game and we were able to see it out well.
“I’ve really been enjoying my football here. The games have been good and the standard in training has been impressive. I’ve settled in well and I’m working hard to show what I can do.”
