St Johnstone WFC Player of the Year Jodie Malcolm is targeting a positive end to the campaign as Saints return to action this weekend.
We welcome Stirling University to the McDiarmid Park Astro on Sunday (4pm kick-off), and Jodie is keen for the team to build momentum over the final fixtures of the league season.
Reflecting on the club’s recent Player of the Year awards, Jodie admitted it was a memorable night both personally and collectively.
“It was a good night that we all enjoyed being part of,” she said. “I was surprised with the awards I picked up but it’s a nice feeling to have been voted for and I really appreciated it.”
The evening also marked the first joint awards ceremony with the men’s side – something Jodie believes is an important step forward for the club.
She explained: “I think it’s really positive and shows how the club support the women’s team, which we all appreciate. More clubs are having joint awards nights now so it’s good for us that we were able to be part of the evening this year.”
Attention now turns back to on-pitch matters, with Saints looking to finish the season strongly after a short break from competitive action.
“It’s important that we finish the season well and get as many points as possible from the last three games,” Jodie said. “We’re still in a position where picking up those points matters so we all know how important it is to perform well in these games.
“Everyone’s worked really hard all season so we want to make sure that we end the season well.
“We know that it’ll be a challenging game and that Stirling will be up for it like the last time we played them.
“They’re able to get forward and score goals so we need to be aware of that, but we also need to be confident in the performance we know we can put in across the whole team to make sure we come away with three points.”
With the men’s campaign drawing to a close on Friday, Jodie is also hopeful of a strong backing at the McDiarmid Park Astro for the run-in.
“It would be great to have as many supporters as possible come along,” she added. “It always helps to have the support and I think it would be really appreciated by everyone as we go into the last few games.”
As stated, kick-off is 4pm on Sunday. Admission is by cash only. Adults £5, concessions £1 and Saints season ticket holders £2.
