SAINTS ARE EUROPE-BOUND AGAIN!!
26th July 2016
What an afternoon! The SPL finale went the way everyone connected with Saints hoped – a win for Steve Lomas’s side over Motherwell coupled with Inverness Caley Thistle losing in Dingwall and the result of that is Saints finish the table in third place and are in the Europa League for the second successive season!
A first half goal from the departing Liam Craig – one of his best – gave Saints the lead at half-time in the lunchtime kick-off and then a goal early in the second half from Nigel Hasselbaink extended the lead which we held onto with a reasonable degree of comfort.
The 1-0 win for Ross County was signalled two minutes before the end of the Perth match and at full-time, ecstatic fans rushed onto the pitch to congratulate the Perth players. Once the pitch was cleared, the team took to the field for a lap of honour.
For only the third time in over one hundred years of Scottish League football, Saints are the third-best in the land and we will head into our fourth – and second consecutive – European adventure, joining Motherwell FC who we congratulate. Hopefully both clubs will do Scotland proud.
We also extend congratulations to both Highland clubs for their part in making this such an interesting and ground breaking SPL campaign.
