MANAGER'S REACTON TO WIN AT RUGBY PARK

MANAGER'S REACTON TO WIN AT RUGBY PARK

26th July 2016

Del better pleased with second half showing

Although disappointed with the showing of his side for the first half hour of yesterday’s match at Kilmarnock, Manager Derek McInnes felt that the performance from that point in the game onwards showed why Saints are not caught up in the battle to avoid the drop from the SPL.

Goals from Kenny Deuchar and Collin Samuel gave Saints a 2-1 win at Rugby Park and Del told the Saints Official Website: “That’s four successive games that we have come back from being a goal down to take something and that says a lot about players.

“I was disappointed with first half apart from last ten minutes. We allowed ourselves to get involved in the sort of game they (Killie) wanted it to be. I had wanted us to play with a bit of freedom and confidence but we didn’t do that until the second half.”

The manager was pleased to see his strikers get the goals and felt it was just reward for the hard work put in by Dukes and Sammy.

Yesterday’s win was vital in our quest for seventh place in the league, particularly with Hamilton Accies continuing their great run with a win at Pittodrie and the manager concluded: “We just have to concentrate on ourselves. I thought that we would have to win a couple of our remaining games – Hamilton being one of them next weekend - and we have managed to get the win here today.

“Now we’ll move onto Falkirk in midweek and attempt to ensure we finish the good work we have done all season. Today though, it was our second half display that showed why we are not involved in the relegation battle.”
