MANAGER REFLECTS ON SUCCESSFUL TRAINING CAMP

26th July 2016

Players head back home today

The Saints squad travel back home from their week-long Warwick training camp today and after a day off tomorrow will be back to training for the remainder of the week ahead of the first public outing of the pre-season programme, a friendly against Forfar Athletic at Station Park on Saturday (kick off 3pm).

Manager Derek McInnes and the squad watched last night’s World Cup Final as a group at the training base after which the Perth Manager spoke to the Saints Official Website.

“It’s been a great week and I’m delighted with the amount of work we covered. It has been really hot but the facilities have been up to their usual standard and we have been well looked after again.

“We did 15 sessions in total and it has been good to break the back of the pre-season work However, there is plenty of work to be done. We will have a closed door game later in the week and the public game on Saturday will see the next stage in our preparations.”

The Manager was delighted with the way his new signings – Jamie Adams, Scott Dobie and Cleveland Taylor – fitted in and he is convinced that all three will have a big part to play in the season ahead.

“All three have mixed well and been made to feel welcome by the existing squad but I never had any worries in that respect and there is no doubt that they have brought a freshness to the squad. All three worked hard and Tony and I have learned plenty about them during the week.”

The Manager hopes to add to his squad at some point this week ahead of Saturday’s Forfar match.

Fans planning to head to Station Park might want to make it an ‘Angus double’ as our Under 19 side will be playing Kirrie Thistle in a pre-season friendly with a 12.30pm kick-off (changed from the previously announced 2.30pm) at Westview Park in Kirriemuir, six miles from Forfar.

Supporters should also note that the club has been advised today that our home match against Celtic on Saturday 30th October has been brought forward to a 12.00pm kick off to allow for live television coverage by ESPN.
