Manager reaches 300 game milestone

Tonight's Ladbrokes Premiership clash with Livingston sees Saints boss Tommy Wright reach a major milestone as he takes charge of his 300th match as the Club's manager.

Only the late Bobby Brown has taken charge of more Saints matches than Tommy and he also boasts an impressive win percentage of 42% which is equal to Willie Ormond's.

Now in his 7th season at the helm, the Manager has had many highlights in his 299 matches to date but the standout was leading the Club to our historic Scottish Cup win in 2014 at the end of his first season in charge.

He led his side to a 2-0 victory over Dundee United at Celtic Park with Steven Anderson and Steven MacLean on target for Saints that day in May.

Tommy's first game as Manager saw Saints produce an incredible performance to win 1-0 away to Norwegian side Rosenborg and a 1-1 draw in the home leg saw his side through to the next round of the Europa League.

After winning the Scottish Cup, Saints qualified for Europe again and once again Tommy masterminded the Club's progression to the next round with a victory over Swiss outfit Luzern on penalties.

Saints secured European qualification once again at the end of that season but were knocked out by Armenian side Alashkert. Having lost the first leg 1-0 in Yerevan, Tommy Wright's men won 2-1 at McDiarmid Park in the second leg but lost out on away goals.

After a season away from European football, Saints qualified again and were drawn against Lithuanian side FK Trakai but lost 1-3 on aggregate in the 2017/18 campaign.

As well as the European adventures there have been some big domestic results during Tommy's tenure.

The Scottish Cup Semi-Final victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox will live long in the memory of all Saints fans when Stevie May turned the game on it's head with two second half goals.

Back in March 2015, a Danny Swanson special saw Saints win 1-0 at champions Celtic.

In the 2015/16 season, goals from Murray Davidson, Simon Lappin and Michael O'Halloran gave Saints a 3-1 win at Ibrox to knock Rangers out of the League Cup.

Little over a week later, Tommy's men travelled north to Aberdeen and thumped the Dons 5-1 at Pittodrie in a match well remembered for a Brian Easton beauty.

In 2017, Saints won 3-1 again at Ibrox. Alfredo Morelos had put Rangers in front but Blair Alston, Denny Johnstone and Graham Cummins goals brought all three points back to Perth.

Tommy has enjoyed victories over Tayside rivals Dundee on a number of occasions. In March 2018, Saints hit the Dens Park outfit for 4 without reply on their own patch.

And during the 2018/19 campaign, Saints boasted a 100% record against their rivals over the four games without conceding a single goal.

The Manager and players will be hoping to mark tonight's milestone with an important victory against Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

There will be an extended interview with Tommy on Saints TV tomorrow evening as he looks back on some of his highlights over his 300 games as Saints manager.
