Midfielder Ali McCann joined Saints in 2012 from Hutchison Vale Boys Club. Ali progressed through the youth ranks and was part of the Development Squad in the 2017/18 season. He made his first-team debut as a second-half substitute against Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup on January 29th 2018.
In May 2018, Ali signed a new one-year to remain at McDiarmid Park. He made his first appearance of the 2018/19 season as a late sub in the League Cup victory over Queen of the South before making his first Premiership appearance of the season from the bench against Dundee in a 1-0 win at McDiarmid Park.
Ali captained Alan Maybury's Saints Reserves for the first-half of the season but with the Manager keen to get the midfielder more first-team opportunities he was loaned out to Ladbrokes League One outfit Stranraer in February 2019.
He impressed while at Stair Park and played a pivotal role in keeping Stranraer in the division. He scored his one and only goal of his 13 appearances for the club in a 3-0 victory over Brechin which secured Stranraer's place in the third tier of Scottish football.
On his return he was rewarded with a new one-year-deal at Saints with Tommy Wright impressed by the progress Ali made during his short spell away on-loan. The youngster grabbed his chance with both hands and broke into the first-team squad after impressing during pre-season.
After becoming a regular in the first-team, Ali was called-up and capped by Northern Ireland's U21 squad before being rewarded with a brand new contract running to the summer of 2023. He then scored his first senior goal for the Club in the 1-0 victory away to Hamilton on Boxing Day 2019.
