STEVE DELIGHTED WITH DEFENSIVE SHOWING

26th July 2016

Manager Steve Lomas was pleased to see his side climb into fourth place in the SPL table last night, his side's 1-0 win away to Inverness Caley Thistle taking Saints three points ahead of Dundee United.

Steve said: “There were a couple of hairy moments in the first half and then at the end when they were throwing everything but the kitchen sink at us but we deserved the win as I think we played the better passing football.”

The pivotal moment of the game came five minutes before half-time when Gregory Tade barged Liam Craig to the ground as the Saints midfielder went to head a Lee Croft cross and the manager was in no doubt about the award.

“It’s as clear a penalty as you’re likely to see” said Lomas and joked: “Mind you, Liam’s heading ability is not his forte - the lad might have been better to let him head it! Fran did well with the kick – I think you can underestimate the amount of composure needed in that situation.”

Apart from the three points, the thing that pleased the manager most was another tight defensive showing.

“That’s another clean sheet which I’m delighted with. We’ve lost only two goals in six games. We now have to go again against Celtic on Sunday.”
