Head to Head: Saints v Killie
22nd November 2018
Tommy Wright and his players will aim to break the club's top flight consecutive win record on Saturday but to do so they will need to record Saints' first home win against Kilmarnock since November 2015.
It was three years ago that Michael O'Halloran and Chris Kane goals secured a 2-1 victory and since then it's been a run of three successive home league defeats - and one Scottish Cup loss - against the Ayrshire outfit.
Steve Clarke's side came out on top at Rugby Park in the first game of the season as well giving Saints added motivation to extract some revenge on Saturday afternoon.
HISTORY
This fixture dates back nearly a century and the first time the two clubs met was in December 1924.
The game was played at the Recreation Grounds and it was the last match to be played there before Saints moved to Muirton Park. All the goals were scored in the first-half with Killie twice taking the lead through Bird and Smith before being pegged back on each occasion. Jimmy Fleming and Tommy Glancy with two goals apiece gave Saints a 4-2 victory.
The clubs have met 155 times in all competitions since then and despite Saints winning the inaugural match it's Killie who come out on top in the head to heads.
Saints have 46 wins compared to Kilmarnock's 76, with 33 draws between the sides.
TOMMY WRIGHT RECORD
Our record against Killie since current manager Tommy Wright took charge is closer but still sees the Rugby Park outfit come out on top.
Since Tommy's appointment we have beaten Kilmarnock six times in the league, with eight defeats and two draws. We have also met twice in cup competitions in that time, with Saints winning in the League Cup back in 2014 but losing out in the Scottish Cup in 2016.
It has been our home record which has let us down in this period against Killie with just two wins for Saints at McDiarmid Park compared to five wins for the visitors. Our record under Tommy at Rugby Park is identical to Kilmarnock's with four wins apiece and one draw.
Kick-off on Saturday is 3PM and the referee is Willie Collum.
