Match Preview: Saints v Partick Thistle
28th October 2016
This Saturday St Johnstone will take on Partick Thistle for the second time this season, at McDiarmid Park. Goals from Steven MacLean and club captain Steven Anderson secured a 2-0 win for the Saints in early September. Keith Watson and Ally Gilchrist remain out injured but are making good progress, while Tam Scobbie is in contention after playing 60 minutes for the development squad midweek.
Saints sit 3rd in the SPFL table, having taken 4 points from the previous 6 available. Wednesday night saw Saints remain above Rangers in the table, drawing 1-1 at Ibrox. Saints also secured a positive result last Sunday, coming out 2-1 winners against Tayside rivals Dundee.
Partick themselves are in a good run of form. Unbeaten in three matches having also recently defeated Dundee, the Jags were 2-0 winners at Dens Park midweek. The visitors sit 10th in the table but could go as high at 5th on Saturday if results go their way.
Earlier in the week, Blair Alston previewed the game. The midfielder who arrived from championship outfit Falkirk in the summer scored his first goal at Ibrox on Wednesday to give Saints the lead. He's expecting a tough match when Partick visit McDiarmid on Saturday: "We're playing with great belief at the moment and going into every game confident we can win."
"Partick will be wanting to build on their result against Dundee and take all three points, but so are we. These are the type of games we need to win to retain a high league position. If we play the same way we did on Wednesday night I'm confident we can get the win."
