MOTHERWELL HEAD TO PERTH TOMORROW

Saints looking to build on midweek draw

Like Letham buses, after no home game for over five weeks, two now come along at once and after Wednesday’s game against Aberdeen, Motherwell make their second visit of the season to McDiarmid Park tomorrow.

Saints will be looking to build on the performance against Aberdeen in midweek which, particularly in the second half, saw us play in the kind of positive manner we had been seeing prior to the turn of the year.

Both the previous encounters against The Steelmen this season have ended all-square – 2-2 in Perth and 1-1 in Lanarkshire and tomorrow will no doubt be another tight affair.

One player looking forward to the match is Liam Gordon and he spoke with the Saints Official Website after training today.

“Wednesday was much better.” said the Club Captain.

“The coaching staff and players all knew that we needed a reaction after the huge Scottish Cup disappointment and I feel that we got that to a great extent.

“However, we have to be looking for that level of performance – and higher – week in, week out.  The very least the fans deserve is 100% effort and the best footballing performance we can manage and it was good that we got a reaction.”

Tomorrow’s game against Motherwell is followed by a trip to meet Ross County in Dingwall in a week’s time and Liam is in no doubt that we are in ‘vital games’ territory now.

He continued “We’re into a busy spell of fixtures now and I know it’s an old cliché but we can only take one at a time.  A good run now can take you to a good position and that’s what we have to aim for.  It’s a really important stage of the season.”

Looking specifically at the visit from Stuart Kettlewell’s side, Liam feels we have a bit of business to settle.

He says: “It’ll be another tight game no doubt but having given up a two-goal lead here back in October and then lost an injury time equaliser down there last month, I feel we’re due them one.  But they’re a good side and we will again have to turn in a good performance to get the result we want.”
