Saints close in on another record

14th November 2018

Wednesday 14 November 2018

Following last weekend's 4-0 victory over Hamilton, Tommy Wright and his players officially broke the club's existing top flight clean sheet record as Zander Clark recorded his 5th consecutive shutout in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Zander will be hoping to extend that run against Kilmarnock a week on Saturday when Saints return to league action after the international break but there will also be a chance for the players and manager to break yet another club record.

Tommy Wright is one of only three managers to manage five consecutive top flight victories, alongside his predecessor Steve Lomas and one of the club's most renowned managers Willie Ormond.

In fact, Tommy and Willie Ormond have both achieved the feat twice. Victories over Ross County, St. Mirren, Kilmarnock, Inverness and Dundee United between November 22nd - December 27th 2014 gave Tommy his first five-in-a-row before a defeat against Aberdeen on New Year's Day 2015.

Last weekend's win over Hamilton helped the manager to match that run but he'll be hoping to go one better when Kilmarnock visit Perth.

Willie Ormond achieved the feat in 1969 and then again in 1971 in the old Division One.

The only other time the club has been on a five game winning streak in the top flight of Scottish football was back in 2012 under Steve Lomas.

The run kicked off with a stunning 2-1 victory against Celtic before wins against Ross County, Dundee, St. Mirren and Kilmarnock.
