St Johnstone Under-18s recorded an impressive 5-0 league victory against Ayr United on Friday afternoon.

Jacob Fleming, who is from Perth, chipped in with a hat-trick while Brodie Dair (pictured) found the back of the net on two occasions.

Head of the club’s youth academy Alistair Stevenson was pleased with the clinical nature of Saints’ performance – and how the players handled themselves defensively.

“Ourselves and Ayr are towards the top of the league,” Stevenson said. “They have a strong team.

“The conditions were difficult – a swirling wind – but the boys kept trying to pass the ball and play the way we asked. We started to create a lot of chances.

“We managed to get some of the younger boys on too and ended up with quite a few U16s on the park.”

Stevenson was delighted for goal scorers Fleming and Dair.

“Jacob holds the play up well,” he added. “It was three great goals and he’ll get a lot of confidence out of that.

“And Brodie is top class. He scored two and made two. When he’s in the mood he can be unplayable because he has pace and two good feet.”
