St Johnstone Women set for Gartcairn test

St Johnstone Women return to Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 action this Sunday.

Kevin Candy’s side, who sit fifth in the table, are pencilled in for an away trip to Gartcairn.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm at the MTC Park at Airdrie Leisure Centre.

Saints were due to play Stirling University at the Riverside Stadium in Perth on Wednesday night but that game was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Candy says his team are itching to get back out on the field of play and expects a tough challenge against Gartcairn.

“We are effectively facing a whole new Gartcairn team given the number of January signings they have made,” he explained.

“They have completed some very shrewd bits of business and their results since the season has re-started shows that they will present a tough challenge.

“However, despite their previously results, I personally felt they were always a challenging opposition to line-up against.”

Providing the latest team news ahead of Sunday’s fixture, Candy added: “Both Eirinn McCafferty and Steffi Simson are on the injured list at the moment and it’s a blow to not have the services of two exceptionally talented individuals.

“However, we have a squad full of talented individuals with a good measure of positional flexibility available to us.

“On a positive note, goalkeeper Ellie Mitchell stepped back to full contact training this week following a concussion so that’s certainly a positive for us.”

Kick-off at MTC Park Airdrie is 2pm on Sunday. It is £6 for adults and £3 for concessions. For tickets, see https://app.fanbaseclub.com/Fan/Tickets/SelectType?fixtureId=4981
