U18s: Scott Bright previews Dundee (H)

Our under-18s play their final game of the Club Academy Scotland Performance League on Friday.

The young team welcome Dundee to the McDiarmid Park astroturf (kick-off 5pm) knowing that a victory or a draw can retain the league title.

Saints picked up an important win away at Ayr United – who sit second in the table – last Friday and are now determined to finish the campaign in style.

Supporters are more than welcome to attend. Entry is free.

“The main thing going down there was to win and get the result,” captain Scott Bright said of last week’s win.

“Personally and as a team I don’t think it was a great performance. We have played a lot better but ultimately we got the job done and got the three points to come back to McDiarmid Park on Friday.

“Dundee will be good – and they always have been whether at U18s or at younger years. It will be our last game as a group going into the end of the season. And of course we want to end it right.”

Bright was one of a number of the U18s who spent time on loan this season and he praised the younger members of the youth academy who have stepped up to keep the league momentum going.

He said: “It has been a bit-part season because a lot of us have been away on loan. We have very rarely all played together at the same time.

“As we all gel back together, maybe it wasn’t there right from the start last Friday. But it’s nice to have whole squad fit, available and together.

“The younger ones – even the U16s – deserve a lot of credit for putting us in the position we’re in now.”
