Celtic Match Preview

We welcome Celtic today in our next cinch Premiership fixture.

St Johnstone look to bounce back from midweek’s 2-1 defeat against Kilmarnock. Danny Armstrong put the hosts ahead on the 10th minute with a wonderful free kick into the top corner. The Killie winger would grab his brace minutes into the second half when he was quickest to react to a shot that rebounded off the bar.

Theo Bair opened his Saints account with a brilliant strike late on leading to a tense finish. However, Callum Davidson’s men couldn’t find an equaliser meaning the points stayed in Ayrshire.

Celtic also look to get back to winning ways after their 3-1 defeat in the Champions League to RB Leipzig. In their last Premiership outing, 10 man Celtic claimed the 3 points against Motherwell thanks to goals from Kyogo and Hatete.

Manager's thoughts

“The games are coming thick and fast at the moment, it was important we recovered correctly after playing on the astroturff Wednesday night.

“After watching the game back, I feel we played quite well on Wednesday. In the second half I feel like we just lacked bravery on the ball. We controlled a lot of the game but didn’t ask enough questions of Kilmarnock’s back line.

“I still take some positives from the game, Theo grabbed his first goal and young Max came on and played well too. Ali Crawford started the game and played well, so plenty positives to take from the game.

“Tomorrow will be a very tough game. Celtic are a top team and have a brilliant squad. As a top-level footballer these are the games you want to play in, if you don’t want to face the best players you should be in a different sport.”
