HALL OF FAME 2019 | Dave Mackay
17th February 2019
The club is delighted to announce that Dave Mackay is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame having been voted in by the supporters.
'Cup Tie' joins Jim Weir having both been chosen by the Saints fans and will be formally inducted at the Hall of Fame Dinner on Saturday 23rd March 2019 at Perth Concert Hall.
The 2014 Scottish Cup-winning captain joined Saints on the club's return to the top flight in the summer of 2009 and quickly became a fans favourite at McDiarmid Park.
The defender was forced to retire in 2016 due to injury but received a Testimonial the following year and is rightfully regarded as a club legend for his contribution to St. Johnstone Football Club during his seven year stay at McDiarmid.
Speaking to the club's official website about his upcoming induction to the Hall of Fame, Dave Mackay said being voted by the supporters makes it even more special.
"It's a great honour," said Dave, "to be in that Hall of Fame with a list of people who have contributed so much to the club throughout St. Johnstone's entire history is a really nice feeling.
"I was actually really surprised to hear I was going to be inducted especially so soon after finishing playing here and the fact that it's the fans who have chosen me makes it even more special.
"The supporters have been great with me since the day I signed for the club back in 2009. It obviously helps when you get off to a good start and I remember winning a number of Player of the Year Awards in that first season.
"Whenever I come up to the games now I'm always stopping to chat to the fans and I've got a great relationship with them.
"The club achieved a lot while I was here. Obviously the Scottish Cup win in 2014 but also top six finishes and of course the European games.
"The Rosenborg and Luzern ones standout. For us to knock those clubs out was a really big achievement for St. Johnstone.
"I don't actually think too much when it comes to the Scottish Cup win unless someone starts talking about it then it all comes flooding back.
"It was an amazing time for the club, the fans and for me personally and I'm sure in years to come I'll look back on it a lot more.
"I'm really happy with what I achieved at Saints and for the club and the fans to recognise me in this way is really special."
