PREVIEW | Aberdeen v Saints

13th September 2019

Friday 13 September 2019

We're back in action after the September international break as Tommy Wright takes his side to Pittodrie for a 3PM kick-off tomorrow against Aberdeen in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Saints go into the match still searching for their first league win of the 2019/20 campaign and will be hoping to gain three points tomorrow against Derek McInnes's men.

The Dons go into Saturday's game in 4th place ahead of 5th placed Motherwell on goal difference.

Saints lost 0-1 to Kilmarnock last time out a fortnight ago but were buoyed by the return of Drey Wright and the homecoming of Stevie May who made his second debut from the bench in the match.

TEAM NEWS

Tommy Wright has almost a full squad to choose from as his side look to pick up three points in Aberdeen tomorrow afternoon.

The only injury absentee is Liam Craig with the veteran midfielder ruled out through injury but the Manager has also added to his squad since the defeat against Kilmarnock a fortnight ago.

Anthony Ralston and Jason Holt arrived on deadline day to bolster the defence and midfield options ahead of Saturday's match.

The international break allowed players such as Drey Wright and Stevie May to continue building on their fitness having both come off the bench last time out, whilst David Wotherspoon, Ali McCann and Madis Vihmann returned to training this week having been away on international duty.

PRE-MATCH INTERVIEWS

The MANAGER: "We know about the international breaks well in advance so we are always prepared and plan ahead.

"After any break the players just want to get back out there and we're raring to go for the game against what is a good Aberdeen team.

"Any time you play Derek's side you know you're going to have to play well to get the win but we've done it before at Pittodrie and if we put in a good performance then I'm sure we can get a result.

"We've added to the squad since last time out with Anthony and Jason coming in and I'm really pleased with how we're looking. We were patient in the window and got the main targets that we wanted.

"It was disappointing last time out against Kilmarnock but I think there was some positives and we need to take them into tomorrow's game, make sure we put in a performance for the whole 90 minutes, and if we do that then hopefully we can send the fans back down the road happy."

STEVIE MAY: "I'm really looking forward to it and obviously there's an extra wee incentive in it for me going up against my former club.

"I don't think it adds pressure but it certainly makes it a wee bit more exciting and it'll be good to play against some familiar faces in my former teammates.

"Hopefully I'll be involved from the start but that's the Manager's decision. There's strong competition in the attacking areas but if I'm called upon I'll be ready to go.

"The Club has had some good results in recent years against Aberdeen so there's no reason why we can't do well there again this season. We have good players and we're relishing the prospect of getting all three points tomorrow.

"It won't be an easy game and it's going to be challenging but we know we're capable and we'll be giving it our all."

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last season the two clubs shared four points apiece in the Ladbrokes Premiership with Saints winning the only match at Pittodrie 2-0 thanks to goals from Joe Shaughnessy and Blair Alston.

They shared the spoils at McDiarmid Park almost a year ago to the day - September 15th 2018 - with David McMilllan scoring for Saints in a 1-1 draw before losing 0-2 at home to Derek McInnes's men in February courtesy of a Graeme Shinnie double.

Overall it's tomorrow's hosts who have the better head-to-head record with 75 wins compared to 38 for Saints. There have been 47 stalemates between the sides in 160 matches.

In recent years, Saints have enjoyed some fruitful trips to Pittodrie, not least the memorable 5-1 victory back in October 2015.
