Former Perth High School student David Wotherspoon, who started out with Saints playing U12s before moving to Celtic, left the youth set-up at The Hoops in search of regular first-team football and joined Hibernian in 2007. In his debut season as a first-team player at Easter Road, David was a virtually ever-present in the side, making over 30 appearances.
Capped at U18, U19 and U21 level for Scotland, boyhood Saints fan David finally signed for his hometown club in the summer of 2013 and having attended McDiarmid Park as a fan in our 1999 European games, he made his debut as a player in the famous Europa League victory away to Rosenborg in Norway.
After missing out on two successive Scottish Cup Finals with Hibs, it was third time lucky for David when he was part of the Saints side that won the Scottish Cup in 2013/14 capping a remarkable first season with the club.
Since his arrival, David has been a first-team regular and is in his sixth season with the club having made over 200 appearances for Saints. In January 2017, he signed a new contract which keeps him at McDiarmid Park until at least the summer of 2019. Despite having featured 16 times for Scotland U21s, the midfielder has since committed his international future to Canada where his mother was born and has one cap so far for the Canucks.
